8 Books That Will Transform Your Life now!

I read daily and I write my thoughts in my journal every day. Along with this habit, whenever I find an exceptional book, I campaign it to the world. I get several questions about each book I speak about and I generally get asked for my book recommendations weekly and almost daily now. I read several good books and a few times out of the year, I read excellent books that completely blow me away and reinvigorate my mindset.

There are a few attributes that a book needs to possess in order to make it to my book recommendations list:

  1. The book has to be easy to read. Nowadays, information is found everywhere and what we modern-day readers need is a break from all the convoluted noise of society. When we read books, they have to be not just easy for the eyes, but easy for the mind as well — a distillation of the perplexing knowledge out there and a breath of fresh air so-to-say.
  2. If it is a self-help book, it must have simple and actionable steps we human beings can apply day-to-day. I find that there are several books urging the grandiose diets, massive identity shifts, and promote these colossal re-invention stories. However, not everyone has grand ambitions and not everyone can take elephantine steps. So in my opinion, an exemplary self-help book is a combination of realistic initiatives, genuine stories, and good almost subtle motivation.
  3. The Grip Factor which is a hook or aha-moment must come early. I have this less ideal habit of putting a book down and not giving it a chance, after not seeing the hook early on. Ideally, a great book should have several small aha-moments early on so the reader doesn’t lose the incentive to read. Some authors wait too long and leave the hooks in the middle of the book, this is unfortunate because I’m gone before I even get there.
  4. The Plot, Climax and the Author’s Philosophy/ Thesis must evoke wisdom, transformation, movement, and inspiration. Nuff said. This is my number one deal-breaker. If the book doesn’t meet any of the above criteria, I will not recommend it.
  5. The Author’s Writing/ Language Style must be engaging & well-written. This is what keeps the reader going on and on as they get to appreciate the well-structured sentences that bring about authenticity to the narration as well as the emotions of every story. This book feature is absolutely subjective, but for me, it is also vital. A ‘poorly-written’ book, no matter how fascinating the characters or how engaging the story, will not meet my parameters for a good book.
  6. A book being visual (having photos within the pages) and being visually appealing (having a good cover and nice crisp thick and porous pages) is my preference but is not an absolute requirement. Yes, I am one of those bookworms who pay attention to cover design, the typography used, and the paper texture. If I do invest hours and hours of my time on any form of material, this material has to be pleasing.
  7. A profound ending is another characteristic that makes any book spectacular. I have seen several authors insert their plug for their sequel or try to sell their consulting services, proprietary exercises without crafting a good close. One of the greatest incentives a reader gets is the feeling of absolute satisfaction and inspiration after reading the last chapter.

So, without further ado, here are my top books for 2019:

Best Leadership Book
Multipliers by Liz Wiseman

This book has completely trasnformed my entrepreneurial mindset. It speaks about a contrast of two types of leaders, a Multiplier — are genius makers or leaders who make everyone smarter and a Diminisher — are often intelligent leaders, but believe their genius is rare, giving them the illusion that they are the only ones capable of generating good ideas and successfully running a business. Chapter after chapter is filled with stories of the world’s greatest leaders and how they have created the utmost benevolence, of seeing the best in people and utilizing those strengths to make the world a better place. If you are a visionary, entrepreneur or a leader passionate about developing the people around you, you need this book now!

Best Transformation Book
Atomic Habits by James Clear

The cover says it all and it does not disappoint! Tiny Changes — Remarkable Results! I can’t stop raving about this book. I think I have recommended this book to every single person I care about and truthfully, I recommend it to everyone who doesn’t even need a book recommendation! I don’t think I’ve heard anyone not marvel at it. This last few years, I’ve gone great lengths to transform myself, my day includes crazy working hours, even crazier working out hours, countless of hours reading and learning, and an incredible commitment to self-development.

Having this pursuit for self-excellence, I am extremely meticulous at how I run my days and the results I achieve daily. What is exceptional about this book is how you don’t have to do crazy things to achieve more out of your day. It talks about simple actionable items you can apply every single day and over time achieve great results from the aggregation of your daily effort. It also speaks about how one should not focus on goals but to focus on systems. The genius part is the habit cheat sheet which exhibits how habits are formed and how bad habits are eradicated. Disclaimer: This book is extremely transformative! Wanna stop smoking? Wanna lose those final pounds? Wanna reinvent yourself? Look no further, your habits get you there! Get ready to make changes!

Best Entrepreneurship Books
Strategyzer Series: Business Model Generation & Value Proposition Design

I’m sure you get my drift already after reading my commentary on the aforementioned books. I talk about books that are absolutely indispensable.

In the past years, I’ve read a multitude of business books ranging from something as simple as ideation and brainstorming to books that contain complex financial models and advance business frameworks. Hands down, these are the top two books that have shaped me as an entrepreneur. I think every entrepreneur should own these two, no matter the size of the business. What is amazing about these books is how they go into so much visual detail. You are never bored in every chapter. You are enthralled by the imagery but also the simplicity of the tools displayed. One of the tools that have completely stunned me is the empathy map found on Value Proposition Design. I have used this tool over and over again and I am still shocked to see aha moments from my team to this day.

The Business Model Generation is on a whole other level! If you are an entrepreneur or wanting to be an entrepreneur, you need this book yesterday. It gives you so much clarity on what, why, how much, and how you do business. You will be extremely surprised, delighted, or even disappointed to uncover so many aspects of your business after going through a simple exercise as plotting on the Business Model Canvas. I personally have plastered post-its on my entire living room and dining room wall after reading this book.

Other books that I love to recommend without going into so much detail.
